Colorful Voices…United

This piece began as a response to political unrest, but quickly became more than just protest—it turned into a celebration of community, color, and courage.

It started with sadness & frustration following the November election. Listening to the news, my heart was heavy, and I wondered what I could possibly do that would matter. I cannot march on Washington. I cannot speak confidently to the masses (much less one or two people!). I’m an artist…I create things.

So I went to my studio. I reached for colors that made me feel alive. Since November, those colors have, interestingly, gotten brighter and brighter….magenta, lime green, bright yellow, orange.

As I painted, shapes emerged which felt to me like a chorus of horns… like The Whos in Whoville playing together in a parade —their voices upright, distinct, and buzzing with energy. I realized these forms were loud, loving voices joining together, refusing to be drowned out. Vibrant voices—each one distinct in pattern, texture, and hue—rising together in harmony, creating a wall of peaceful resistance. That’s what I was painting.

This piece is about resistance, yes—but not the angry, shouting kind. It’s about showing up with respect, with joy, with differences. It’s about what happens when people from all walks of life show up with love, respect, and hope for something better. We don’t have to match to move as one. We just need to care.

What you get isn’t noise.
It’s harmony.
It’s color.
It’s hope.

Join your colors with others and make your voice heard.
